This is a Heroes novel coming out December 26th which takes a closer look at the relationship between Hiro Nakamura and Charlie Andrews which took place earlier in Season 1. The author, Aury Wallington, is publishing the book with full cooperation of the show’s creators. This looks to be a pretty good book at 256 pages, although a little steep with a price tag of $25. However, it looks to be worth it. Below is Wikipedia’s plot summary:

“Save the cheerleader, save the world” are the defining words of Heroes, the phenomenal series that has transformed television drama. They are also the cryptic marching orders for the show’s cross section of ordinary individuals united by an extraordinary bond. Each possesses a superhuman ability, and together they must prevent the course of history from taking a terrifying turn. Now, in this original novel based on the TV phenomenon, in a thrilling story that will captivate even those who haven’t seen the show, one of these unexpected saviors steps center stage on a deeply personal quest that will test the limits of his gift, the depth of his love, and the ultimate strength of his will. Hiro Nakamura possesses the remarkable power to control time. And like his uniquely blessed comrades, he’s on a mission for the good of humankind. But another challenge awaits him: saving the love of his life from an unspeakable death. Charlene “Charlie” Andrews is the big-hearted, small-town beauty whose sunny smile and sweet soul knocked the shy Hiro head over heels. But when Charlie’s young life is snuffed out by a grisly serial killer, their budding romance is brutally cut short. Or is it? Thanks to his astounding newfound skill, Hiro has the means to do what no tragedy-stricken lover in history ever could–turn back time. And no matter how raw his abilities, or how many twists of circumstance conspire to foil him, he vows to deliver Charlie from the evil poised to claim her. He will be her hero. But what possible consequences might changing the past visit upon the future? How could saving one cherished life affect millions of others? And what ultimate choice will Hiro make when the power of fate rests in his hands?

I might even pick it up. Happy reading Heroes efficienados. I know I spelled that wrong.

Ted Sprague, another one of the coolest Heroes characters, was short-lived and was killed at the end of Volume 1. However, I believe we should take a look at the background behind this explosive hero. Ted started out in a normal life with his wife who had cancer, which was caused by him. Matt Parkman and Audrey Hanson had come to investigate the murder of Ted’s Wife’s OnCologist, in which he was brutally radiated. They realize this is supernatural. They come to the hospital where Ted and his wife are, and he flips out. He threatens a nurse and the officers, but is taken into custody. Matt also discovers the mark symbolizing that Ted had been experimented on by the company. At the interrogation room, they find out the full extent of Ted’s powers. He threatens to blow up the building, and nicely boils a glass of water. At the interrogation, Matt questions him more about the mysterious mark, and trys to find answers about what it means. They realize they both went through similar scenarios. But that’s a different story. Ted later escapes from their custody, discreetly blowing up a van. After the long break after the Homecoming incident, Ted is seen in a cabin in Nevada, testing his power. He later meets with Hana Gitelman, a hero with the ability to mess with electronics, or something like that. She also has the mark. Ted visits his wife’s grave and vows revenge against the Company who experimented on him and caused him so much pain. Ted and Matt meet up again, and Matt tells them they’re being tracked. They decide to take drastic measures to take down the Company. They take the Bennet family hostage. Ted and Matt learn more about the Company’s past, and Ted. Long story short, while Matt and Bennet are getting answers and Bennet is turning a new leaf, Ted gets suspicious. He thinks they’re trying to trick them. Bennet gives Ted some answers, Thompson, an old boss of the Company, ruins it and shoots Ted. He loses it, nearly creating a mushroom cloud. Same thing happens to me. They seadte Ted, and take him, Bennet, and Matt prisoner. With help from Bennet, they escape. They discuss how to take down the Company and get their lives back to normal, and decided to go to New York to take out their tracking system, Molly Walker. They get to New York, and run into Peter Petrelli and Claire Bennet. Peter absorbs Ted’s power, which was believed to be the bomb, but Peter is able to handle it. They develop a plan for Peter, Claire, and Ted to go to Odessa to be safe. However, Sylar had a different plan. When he reports Ted to the police, he uses that as a pawn to get to Ted. He kills Ted, and uses that power to try to blow up New York, but fails. Ted is a character that will be missed by me, and any other Heroes fan that enjoyed an unstable dude.

Memorable Quotes:

“I didn’t mean to kill him. Dr. Fresco said there was nothing he could do to save her. I tried to convince him, you know? There must be something else that he could do. Anything. And we argued. And I lost control.
- Ted (to Audrey) (Nothing to Hide)

“If you’re not back in an hour, just look for the mushroom cloud.”
- Ted (to Matt and Mr. Bennet) (Company Man)

“You’re gonna upset me. Do you know what happens when I get upset? I get very bright and very hot.”
- Ted (to Mr. Bennet) (Company Man)

“Gun, I don’t need a gun, do I Mr. Bennet? Not after what you did to me!”
-Ted (to Mr. Bennet) (Company Man)

“Put the gun down and listen to the man… or else I’ll melt that bullet, melt the gun, and melt you before you can even think of pulling the trigger!”
- Ted (to Hana) (The Death of Hana Gitelman, Part 2)

Fun Facts:
Ted was loosely based on a train conductor used in the original pilot, but got cut. They later changed him into Ted.

Ted is inspired by the real life terrorist, Ted Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber.

THe question this week is “Who Shot Nathan?” This has been buzzing around my mind, and I’m leaning with the fan theory that Noah did. Either him, Bob, or someone else in the company. I mean, it’s someone Angela knows pretty well, obviously, as we can tell from the phone call. I think it might even be Dallas Petrelli, back from the grave! Let me know what you think, in comment form.

Heroes Volume 1 was definitely one of, if not the defining Volume of Heroes. With the over-the-top storyline of saving the world from an apoctalyptic future, and some great moments in between, it was one of TV’s finest. Spanning from September 25 2006 to May 23 2007 with a few week breaks in between and ranking out at 23 episodes, it was no short season. I remember the very night Heroes premiered, seeing the classic scene of Peter about to test his flight, thinking “this is huge.” OK, maybe I didn’t think that, but something like that. The show started off with 5 people in an ordinary world with average storylines, but then it exploded, no pun intended. The show had me scrambling for pen and paper to keep up, and it was a permanent fixture on Monday nights. The Volume also brought quotes that I nearly cite off every day, including “It’s time for me to be somebody Nathan!”, “My Name is Hiro Nakamura, and I am from the future!”, and more. The acting was superb, the action was that of a blockbuster, and the writing was beautiful and epic, keeping me gasping at the great turns and twists, leaving me gasping for air telling my friends about it Tuesday morning, and looking at them having not a clue of what I was talking about. Although there were a miniscule bumps sometimes where the story didn’t seem to go as fast, and some other tiny tiny things, but Heroes Volume 1 Genesis provided a superb overall experience that no sci-fi fan should forget. (Total Grade: A)

With Volume 2 gone thanks to the Writer’s Strike (I still want a Heroes Christmas Special), Heroes will be resume sometime in 2008 for Volume 3, Villains. The Volume looks to be one of the biggest and most explosive in recent memory. TIm Kring said that they gave it that name due to the vast number of villains coming in. But, knowing Heroes, it will probably be much more complicated than that. I expect to see The Company playing a big part, also Sylar, and maybe even Mr. Bennet. Overall, Heroes has definitely earned its spot on my DVR and will continue to be there when it returns.

Claude Rains, one of my favorite characters from Season 1, was definitely a transparent figure you did not want to mess with. He made his first (chronological) appearance in Company Man, when he joined the Company and was Noah Bennet’s “one of them.” He then realized the Company’s evil motives and began helping the superpowered individuals. Bennet was ordered to kill Claude, and so he thought he did. However, in the episode Fallout, we saw different. He crossed paths with Peter Petrelli, and agreed to tutor him in order to avoid his apoctalyptic dream. Claude was a rough but straight teacher who mainly fathered his pidgeons on the roof of Issac Mendez’s loft. He used some extreme methods to teach Peter-beating him with a stick to get him to use levitation, throwing him off a roof to test flight/invincibility. However, Issac Mendez, formerly Peter’s friend, led Noah and his new partner, the Haitian, to Claude. They tryed to take him in, but Peter escaped with him. Angered by what he thought was Peter’s betrayal, he left Peter to “go boom.” Peter then went off for revenge, accidentally killing his girlfriend. We have still not heard from him.

Memorable Quotes-

“Me? I’m no one. I’m the Invisible Man. I’m Claude Rains. Now get away from me. Forget you ever saw me.”

- Claude (to Peter) (The Fix)

“There’s no such thing. No teaching. No Sunday school for the special. What I can do, you can’t learn. You wake up in the morning, it’s there. If you’ve got thin soup, then that’s your supper. Sorry, mate, that’s the way it is.”

- Peter, Claude (The Fix)

“I spend a lot of time moving around people’s homes, their bedrooms. You get to know people if you see them when they think they’re alone. You see them for what they truly are: selfish, deceitful, and gassy.”

“So what is that, your big truth about the world?”

“Sooner you learn it, sooner we get that collar off your neck. People suck, friend. Every last one of them. Never forget that.”

- Claude, Peter (Distractions)

“So what do we do now?”

“Hey! We? You watch your own back. I do what I always do — disappear.”

- Peter, Claude (Unexpected)
